Meeting Times

Bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem

Asalaamu alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuhu,

Jazakallahu khaire to all who participated in last week's elections!

Although there were vacancies in the board for only half of the nominees, we would like to stress that one does NOT need to be an officer to get involved in the MSA. In fact, we have many members who mashaAllah work behind the scenes and contribute even more than officers! All business meetings required for officers to attend (where the planning and administration happens) are OPEN to all members. We strive to make the atmosphere very inviting so don't feel intimidated to join in!! In addition, we have made strenuous efforts to keep the activities of the MSA transparent and revolve around the needs and interests of the members feesabilillah. This is a TEAM EFFORT and the members are the brain power, energy, and main body of the MSA. By the way, more leadership roles will open up next year inshaAllah (i.e. MSAnW Representatives (2 spots), IH committee, Fast-a-Thon committee, IAW committee, etc.).

In the end, the most important thing to keep in mind is we keep our intentions purely for the purpose of pleasing Allah subhanahu wata'ala. Only Allah knows what is in our hearts, and thus we will be rewarded according to what we intended. Rasullullah (saw) said: "Every action is on the niyyah [intention], and every man will get what he intended, whosoever makes hijrah for Allah and His Messenger, his hijrah is for Allah and his messenger. And whosoever makes hijrah for dunya, or for a woman to get married to, his hijrah is for whatever he intended." This was indeed a very difficult voting process!! We weren't surprised when many individuals almost tied, as all candidates were highly qualified for officer roles and sincerely passionate mashaAllah.

So long,
JazakumAllahu khairun wa assalaamu alaykum,

REMINDER

This is from the words of Hamdun al-Qassar, one of the great early Muslims, as narrated by Imam Bayhaqi in his Shu`ab al-Iman [7.522].
He said (Allah have mercy on him), "If a friend among your friends errs, make seventy excuses for them. If your hearts are unable to do this, then know that the shortcoming is in your own selves." [ibid]
